KairoSpace team has designed, built and set up a pilot plant for gas mixtures reactions addressed at the characterization of catalytic systems relevant to a wide range of energy production processes (e.g., dry reforming, steam reforming, methanation, hydrogenation, reverse water gas-shift, catalytic partial oxidation, etc.).

The system is designed to operate across a broad range of conditions: it can function at temperatures up to 850°C, operational pressures up to 8 atm, GHSV range: 1000 – 300000 h-1.

The plant consists mainly of an adiabatic single-tube reactor with a fixed catalytic bed housing, vertically placed inside a ceramic-insulated electric furnace. The inlet is connected to the gas injection, mixing, and pre-heating section, while the outlet features subsystems for cooling, product collection, and reaction product analysis.

The injection section provides six gas lines (N2, H2, air, CH4, CO and CO2) converging into a single mixing manifold, which is also equipped with a continuously fed steam generator supplied with demineralized water.
